Secure your brand in Estonia with a .ee domain

An .ee domain is the obvious choice for businesses and organizations looking to establish themselves or grow in the Estonian market. It builds strong local trust, is technologically advanced, and protects your business in the Baltic Sea region. Search for an available name or start a secure transfer to us in just a few minutes.

It all starts with a domain name

Through our online shop, you can easily search for the domain name you wish to register to see if it is available. The price is displayed as soon as availability has been checked, and if the domain is available, you can register it straight away in just a few minutes. If you already own a domain name that you wish to transfer to us, the process is the same: enter the domain name in the search box and select the option to transfer it. You’ll need a transfer code (also known as an auth code or EPP code) from your current provider in order to complete the transfer.

When it’s time to renew your domain name, you’ll receive a reminder by email well in advance. Please note that you’ll also need one of our hosting packages to be able to use the domain name for a WordPress or WooCommerce website. If, instead, you wish to use an external service such as Wix or Squarespace, you can purchase our add-on services: DNS hosting or email hosting. This will give you access to our control panel, but with more limited access compared to a standard hosting package.

What exactly is a domain name?

It’s easy to get lost among all the technical terms. To explain how everything fits together, think of your online business as a regular physical house:

Hosting is like a plot of land: It’s the physical space on our servers in Finland where your website and email are hosted. Without a plot of land (hosting), your house has nowhere to stand.

A domain name is like your street address: It’s the name (for example, yourcompany.fi) that people type into their browser to find their way to you. It’s the address that leads visitors to your property.

Your website is the house itself: it’s the walls, the furniture, the paintings, and the different rooms that visitors encounter when they step through the door. It’s simply everything that makes your business unique and welcoming online.

That’s why you always need both an address (domain name) and a server (hosting) for your website and email to work.

Do you need help moving your website and email?

Are you hesitating to switch providers because it seems difficult or time-consuming? You can rest assured. With annual payment (and always included in the Commerce package), we’ll migrate your current website, your databases and all your associated email accounts to our high-speed servers in Finland. The whole process takes place securely in the background without your website being down for a single second, so your customers can visit your site as normal throughout.

Tips for Registering a .ee Domain Name

Registering the correct address for the Estonian market is a smart move for your business in the Baltic Sea region. Here are five strategic tips and rules you should know before finalizing your order:

Check for Trademark Infringement: Before registering a .ee domain, it is important to verify that the name is not a registered trademark. The registry is very strict regarding intellectual property rights, and if you register a name that belongs to another established company, the domain may be suspended or transferred to the rightful owner following an appeal.

Open to everyone worldwide: Anyone can freely register a .ee domain. There are no requirements that your company must be registered in Estonia or that you must have a local address there. You can register the domain quickly and easily using your standard Finnish business or personal information directly at our checkout.

Personal Information and Verification Requirements: The Estonian registry has strict requirements regarding security and traceability. When you register a .ee domain, you must provide a valid personal identification number (for individuals) or an official business registration number (for companies). The registry requires this identification to verify who the legal owner of the domain is.

Think about your future email: If you plan to use the domain for your email (for example, ), it’s best and safest to avoid the characters å, ä, and ö entirely in the main domain. Even though the Estonian registry allows international characters on the web, they can still cause technical problems in global email systems. A short, clean domain without special characters reduces the risk of important emails getting lost.

No Right of Withdrawal Upon Registration: Just as with Finnish and Swedish domains, the registration of a .ee domain takes place immediately in the central registry as soon as the order is paid for and approved by our checkout system. It is not possible to change or cancel a registered name after the fact, and the fee is non-refundable. Therefore, please check the spelling carefully one last time before completing your purchase.
