How to optimize a slow WordPress theme for maximum speed

What can you do on your own?

Clean up your plugins: Plugins often remain on your web host without actually being used. If you have plugins that are installed but deactivated, you can most likely delete them entirely. Also, go through your active plugins—are they really useful, or are they just unnecessarily slowing down your site?

Optimize images for the web: Images are one of the most common causes of slow-loading websites. Images straight from a camera or phone are much too large and result in long wait times for visitors. Make sure your images are resized to the correct dimensions, compressed, and saved in modern, lightweight file formats such as WebP or AVIF.

The server sends back the first byte of data (this is called TTFB, or Time to First Byte).
