Secure your address in Norway with a .no domain
A .no domain is the obvious choice for anyone who wants to establish a business in Norway or specifically target Norwegian consumers. The Norwegian top-level domain enjoys a very high level of trust domestically, but it differs from many other domains in that the central registry has strict requirements regarding who is eligible to own a domain name. Search for an available name or start a secure transfer to us in just a few minutes.
Important Information Before Ordering
Under Norwegian law, to register a .no domain, the owner must have a direct connection to Norway. Businesses must have a valid Norwegian organization number, and individuals must be over 18 years of age and registered in the Norwegian population register.
It all starts with a domain name
Through our online shop, you can easily search for the domain name you wish to register to see if it is available. The price is displayed as soon as availability has been checked, and if the domain is available, you can register it straight away in just a few minutes. If you already own a domain name that you wish to transfer to us, the process is the same: enter the domain name in the search box and select the option to transfer it. You’ll need a transfer code (also known as an auth code or EPP code) from your current provider in order to complete the transfer.
When it’s time to renew your domain name, you’ll receive a reminder by email well in advance. Please note that you’ll also need one of our hosting packages to be able to use the domain name for a WordPress or WooCommerce website. If, instead, you wish to use an external service such as Wix or Squarespace, you can purchase our add-on services: DNS hosting or email hosting. This will give you access to our control panel, but with more limited access compared to a standard hosting package.
What exactly is a domain name?
It’s easy to get lost among all the technical terms. To explain how everything fits together, think of your online business as a regular physical house:
Hosting is like a plot of land: It’s the physical space on our servers in Finland where your website and email are hosted. Without a plot of land (hosting), your house has nowhere to stand.
A domain name is like your street address: It’s the name (for example, yourcompany.fi) that people type into their browser to find their way to you. It’s the address that leads visitors to your property.
Your website is the house itself: it’s the walls, the furniture, the paintings, and the different rooms that visitors encounter when they step through the door. It’s simply everything that makes your business unique and welcoming online.
That’s why you always need both an address (domain name) and a server (hosting) for your website and email to work.
Do you need help moving your website and email?
Are you hesitating to switch providers because it seems difficult or time-consuming? You can rest assured. With annual payment (and always included in the Commerce package), we’ll migrate your current website, your databases and all your associated email accounts to our high-speed servers in Finland. The whole process takes place securely in the background without your website being down for a single second, so your customers can visit your site as normal throughout.

Tips for Registering a .no Domain Name
Registering a .no domain requires a little more thought than other top-level domains due to the strict regulations. Here are five strategic tips and unique rules you need to know before finalizing your order:
The most important requirement from the Norwegian registry (Norid) is that the owner has a legal connection to Norway. For companies, this means that you must have an active Norwegian organization number, for example through a subsidiary or a local branch. Individuals can also register, but must be registered in the Norwegian Population Register and have a Norwegian personal identification number.
Limited Number of Domains per Owner: Unlike most other domain registries, where you can purchase as many addresses as you want, Norway has a cap on the number of domains a single owner may hold. A Norwegian company may own a maximum of 100 .no domains at any one time, and an individual may own a maximum of 5. Therefore, be sure to prioritize your most important brand names and campaigns.
Signing an e-declaration is required: When you place an order for a .no domain, simply paying is not enough. The central registry requires that the intended owner sign a digital declaration (a confirmation that they understand the rules and are entitled to the domain name). After you place your order with us, a link will be sent to you for digital signing. The domain will not be registered until this is completed.
Check your right to the name: Norway has a very strict system for resolving name disputes. Before registering, you should search the Norwegian trademark and business registers to ensure that your desired domain name does not conflict with an already established Norwegian business name or trademark. Registering a well-known Norwegian name in “bad faith” almost always results in you losing the domain in a subsequent legal proceeding.
No right of withdrawal and immediate processing: As soon as your payment is approved and the e-declaration is signed, the registration is sent in real time to the Norwegian registry. The process is fully automated and cannot be stopped, changed, or reversed afterward. Since the fee is non-refundable, it is extremely important that you spell the name exactly right in the search box.
Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
A .no domain is always registered and renewed for one year at a time. To give you secure, long-term control over your Norwegian brand, we handle the entire process automatically. Our system monitors your expiration dates and sends a clear reminder and invoice via email well in advance of the expiration date. As long as you approve the renewal, you’ll never risk losing your domain by mistake.
Once your payment has been approved via Stripe, the prospective domain owner must sign the digital e-declaration that is sent out. As soon as the digital signature is in place, your order is sent directly to the Norwegian registry in the background. The system automatically matches your information in real time. Since the central registry updates its name servers once an hour, your new .no domain will typically be active and ready to use on the internet within 1 to 2 hours after you’ve completed the signing process.
You or your company are 100 percent responsible for this. We never initiate any registration in our own name; we act solely as your technical intermediary. You or your Norwegian company are registered as the official legal owner in the central registry, which means you have full control and legal rights to your Norwegian address.
Transferring a Norwegian domain is a completely digital and seamless process. First, you need to contact your current domain provider and request a transfer code, often referred to as an Authorization Code or EPP code. When you enter this code at checkout, the domain is transferred to us in the background. The transfer takes place without any downtime, which means your website and email will continue to function as usual throughout the entire process.
