Build trust globally with a unique .org domain

The .org top-level domain is one of the Internet’s most established and respected names. Historically, it has been associated with nonprofit organizations and associations, but today it is open to everyone. Choosing a .org domain is a strategic move for anyone who wants to build strong digital trust, whether you’re running a community project, a foundation, an open-source program, or a business with a clear commitment to social responsibility. Search for your name or transfer your existing domain to us today.

It all starts with a domain name

Through our online shop, you can easily search for the domain name you wish to register to see if it is available. The price is displayed as soon as availability has been checked, and if the domain is available, you can register it straight away in just a few minutes. If you already own a domain name that you wish to transfer to us, the process is the same: enter the domain name in the search box and select the option to transfer it. You’ll need a transfer code (also known as an auth code or EPP code) from your current provider in order to complete the transfer.

When it’s time to renew your domain name, you’ll receive a reminder by email well in advance. Please note that you’ll also need one of our hosting packages to be able to use the domain name for a WordPress or WooCommerce website. If, instead, you wish to use an external service such as Wix or Squarespace, you can purchase our add-on services: DNS hosting or email hosting. This will give you access to our control panel, but with more limited access compared to a standard hosting package.

What exactly is a domain name?

It’s easy to get lost among all the technical terms. To explain how everything fits together, think of your online business as a regular physical house:

Hosting is like a plot of land: It’s the physical space on our servers in Finland where your website and email are hosted. Without a plot of land (hosting), your house has nowhere to stand.

A domain name is like your street address: It’s the name (for example, yourcompany.fi) that people type into their browser to find their way to you. It’s the address that leads visitors to your property.

Your website is the house itself: it’s the walls, the furniture, the paintings, and the different rooms that visitors encounter when they step through the door. It’s simply everything that makes your business unique and welcoming online.

That’s why you always need both an address (domain name) and a server (hosting) for your website and email to work.

Do you need help moving your website and email?

The whole process takes place securely in the background without your website being down for a single second, so your customers can visit your site as normal throughout.

Tips for Registering a .org Domain Name

Registering a .org domain is easy, but to get the most out of your domain, there are a few important strategies and features you should be aware of before you buy:

No registration requirements: Many people still believe that you must be a registered association or foundation to purchase a .org domain, but that is not the case. The central registry (PIR) has no restrictions. Anyone—whether you are an individual, a for-profit company, or a school class—has the right to register any available .org name.

Use the domain for brand protection: For businesses, .org is one of the most important domains to own for defensive purposes. If you already have your company name under .se or .com, you should strongly consider purchasing the .org version as well. This prevents competitors, dissatisfied customers, or scam sites from seizing the name and exploiting the high level of trust that the .org extension automatically conveys.

Perfect for support, knowledge bases, and CSR: If your company is for-profit but has a separate division dedicated to charity (CSR), an open-source project, or a large knowledge base for your users, .org is the perfect place to host it. By moving these resources to a .org address, you clearly signal to visitors that the content is intended to help and educate, not to sell.

Flexible registration period of up to 10 years: Unlike some strict national domains, you can choose to register your .org domain for the long term right at the time of purchase. You can select a term ranging from 1 to 10 years at checkout. By securing the domain for multiple years, you signal to search engines that your project is long-term, while also avoiding the risk of missing an annual renewal invoice.

Protect your personal information with Whois privacy: When you register a global top-level domain such as .org, ownership information becomes searchable in a public database (Whois) in accordance with international regulations. If you’re registering the domain as an individual or a sole proprietor and want to prevent your name, email address, and phone number from falling into the hands of spammers, you should enable Whois privacy protection when placing your order.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Can I use the characters å, ä, and ö in a .org domain?

Yes, that works perfectly fine. The central registry for .org fully supports international characters (so-called IDN domains). This means you can register a name with Swedish characters exactly as it is spelled. Keep in mind, however, that it’s always safest to also purchase the international version without å, ä, and ö (where å/ä become a, and ö becomes o) and set up a redirect for it, so that international visitors without a Swedish keyboard can also access your site.

Is it possible to have email addresses on a .org domain that contain the characters å, ä, or ö?

Technically speaking, yes, but in practice it can cause problems. Many older email systems, contact forms, and international mail servers still have difficulty handling email addresses that contain special characters (for example, ). If you plan to use the domain extensively for email communication, we strongly recommend that you use an address without special characters for your primary email accounts.

How soon is a .org domain activated after I pay?

Once your payment has been approved via Stripe, the registration data is sent directly to the global registry in real time. No manual approvals or e-declarations are required for .org. The domain is registered in a matter of seconds, and as soon as the global name servers have been updated—which usually takes between 5 and 15 minutes—your new web address will be live and ready to use.

Is it difficult to transfer a .org domain to you?

No, it’s a standardized and secure process. You simply log in to your current domain provider, make sure the domain isn’t “locked” (Registrar Lock), and retrieve a transfer code (Auth code/EPP code). When you enter that code at our checkout, the transfer begins. According to international rules for global domains, a transfer usually takes 5–7 days to complete entirely in the background, but your website and email will continue to function without interruption throughout the entire process.
